Last Tuesday and Wednesday evening, eighth grade students, along with their parents, rushed to Wayne’s high schools to attend a mandatory forum about drug and alcohol use. While this forum was partially to get our support and enrollment in the “Be Proud” program, it was also a time to get to know how to prevent drug and alcohol use in our lives.
Overall, while this forum was a little boring at parts, the content discussed was important to know for everyone. Once it was time to start, the speakers began their presentation by introducing themselves. After that, they talked about the impact of drug and alcohol use in our lives, and how it was and still is a major problem in this area. The presenters told students about different types of drugs and how to identify and say “No!” to them. Then, they addressed the parents by teaching them techniques on how to tell if your child is drinking or using drugs. Finally, they ended the presentation by explaining the importance of our district’s “Be Proud” program and encouraging us to join. In the end, this program was important to attend and provided our eighth-grade students with a lot of essential information to help them make good, educated choices about drugs and alcohol.
