Are you new to AWMS? Have you ever wondered why there are paintings scattered along the walls of the school? If your answer is yes, then your questions might just be answered.
Those paintings you see while walking from class to class aren’t just ordinary paintings—they’re works of art created by middle schoolers here at Anthony Wayne. I bet I know your next question; “Where do they get the opportunity to do these things?”
Well, the students that paint these murals are part of a club called Mural Club. Mural Club is an extracurricular activity that requires you to sign up during October and usually meets on Thursdays. It is run by Mr. Maher, who is an art teacher here at our school. During the first few meetings, the students in this club come up with ideas for new murals in the school. After that, they begin painting some of their ideas so that other students can see their work.
Some of the murals in this school, however, were not painted by the students in Mural Club. There are a few paintings located all around the interior of the building that were created by Windows Art students. Windows Art is similar to the gifted and talented program, just with students who are good at art, rather than good at math, science, language arts, or social studies.
So if you’re interested in displaying your work for others to see, maybe consider joining Mural Club next year, or possibly even try out for Windows Art. -Bryson B.
