On Friday, May 22, many eighth grade students brought in extra money to spend at the bake sale held by the special education students. Throughout the day, the eighth grade study halls came down to the media center to buy and eat the baked goods, which were donated by the staff, as well as the students’ families.
While eating the cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and other baked goods, the eighth grade student were shown a video, explaining the purpose of the entire event – to raise money for the 2015 New Jersey Special Olympics. The video showed clips from the Special Olympics and its importance to the students in our school. In fact, many of our special education students have participated in the Special Olympics, and have won medals in sports such as track and even swimming. They are eager to compete again, and the money from the bake sale will help them do so.
So, thank you for supporting the Special Olympics with your donations. We would like to wish our AWMS athletes good luck in the Special Olympics!
