Poetry. It’s everywhere. No, literally… it’s hanging everywhere in our school! This month, the sixth graders in Mrs. Bridge’s (formerly known as Miss Bradley) class will be adding a pop of color to our hallways; lighting them up with their unique poems. In honor of National Poetry Month in April, they will be putting up posters all throughout the school with a writing piece of their choice. Although only one poem will be showcased for each student, an entire collection of about 8-10 poems will be available via a QR code at the bottom of each poster. After, during, or before school, using a scanning app such as Red Laser, students and staff can scan these codes to view the students’ poems. Just be sure to have a teacher’s permission before using your phone in the halls during school hours! Once the code has been scanned it will take them to a PDF file on Google Drive where an individual student’s poems are displayed. Page by page, people can peruse through the file, and enjoy reading all of these poems by AW’s budding writers.
The sixth graders have been working on this for a very long time, being able to express their feelings on whatever topic they see fit. They began writing their poems in the beginning of March, and have not stopped their hard work until they finished them just this week. Mrs. Bridges wanted to spread the love of poetry all over the school, and get her students engaged at the same time. Honestly, the sixth graders in her class could really use some love, support, and encouragement to keep writing. So in the next week or so, when they begin to put up their dazzling posters, stop and take a look at them. They will be hanging all over the school, wherever each individual poet chooses to place their poster. They’ll be above lockers, in between classes, and posted all around the hallways, so be sure to keep an eye out. You never know where you can find inspiration. -Jeyda B.
