- The traditional Cornucopia was a goat’s horn filled with fruits and nuts. According to a Greek legend, Amalthea (a goat) broke one of her horns and offered it to the greek god Zeus as a sign of respect. Then, Zeus applied the image of the goat in the night sky as a constellation and named it Capricorn. Hey, goats are important too!
- The three places in the United States that were named after the turkey were Turkey, Texas, Turkey Creek, Louisiana, and Turkey, North Colorado. I guess the cities must be also having a party! PARTY! PARTY!
- The astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s first meal on the moon was a Thanksgiving dinner!
- Don’t forget to say “Thank You Berry Much” because about 768 million pounds(350 million kilograms) of cranberries are being produced all over the U.S. every year!
- The author of “Mary Had A Little Lamb” was Sarah Josepha Hale. (Woah! Wait... what does that have to do with Thanksgiving?) Surprisingly, she was the one that campaigned for 20 years to make Thanksgiving a national holiday. So say thanks to the brave lady who wrote the song “Mary had a little lamb, little lamb…………”
- When we think of Thanksgiving, we usually think about the traditions of eating turkey, but is it possible that a hybrid could’ve come to the play of the tradition? Well, here it is, the Turducken, which is a turkey stuffed with duck inside chicken. Louisiana ships about 5,000 a week before the holiday comes, because it’s getting more popular. So, try it!
- The first T.V. dinner, or prepackaged meal, was Thanksgiving leftovers.Is this real life right now? Yes, it is, because a turkey seller named Swanson had too many frozen turkeys to sell, but not many were sold to the people during the holiday.
